About Hurst Village Band Contest
Hurst Village Contest is held at Ashton United Football Club on Surrey Street in Hurst Cross, we are now in our 32nd year and growing year on year, last year we attracted 37 bands which was a record in recent years. First band registration is 4:15pm and we continue until 10pm.
We operate a one way system for coaches to prevent any hold-ups, coaches enter via Rowley Street and under direction of our stewards drop the bands at the secretary’s office and in turn move up Surrey Street before collecting their bands after they have performed and then leave the area via Andrew Street. We have ample room to drive past and away if the band feels there are too many in front of them and they want to move on somewhere else. We do not have space available for coach drivers to take rest breaks and ask that all bands consider this before arrival.
Hurst Cross Stadium is a great venue for a family night out boasting a large under cover, seated viewing area from where you can see all the action unfold. Bands march along the pitch before playing their contest piece directly in front of the main stand which has over 200 seats available. We can also accommodate disabled spectators and our stewards will be only too happy to help. We have our own onsite tea bar selling burgers, pies and other refreshments including hot & cold drinks and we have our fully refurbished Cross Bar social club serving a wide range of quality beers, wines and spirits and well as an outside bar.
Our adjudicator, Jack Capstaff is in his second year at Hurst Cross, he is well respected within brass band circles as a conductor, band trainer and adjudicator.
We look forward to welcoming friends old & new to The Cross and hope for similar good weather to that we were blessed with last year. See you all on May 24th.
